As-is used totes

Used IBC totes — empty, inspected, sold by grade.

The bread and butter. Tanks that came out of clean industrial service, got logged and inspected at intake, and are ready for their next assignment.

Multi-grade used IBC totes in the intake area at IBC Illinois.
Used totes are inspected and graded at intake. Different colors mean different prior fills, not different quality.

What you get

Honest condition. Real chain of custody.

  • Empty, drained, valve and lid checked
  • Cage straightness verified, no broken welds
  • Bottle inspected for cracks, stress whitening, deep abrasion
  • Prior fill noted on the yard tag — no mystery contents
  • Gasket condition reported (replacement available)
  • Bring-your-own pickup or freight quote at checkout
As-is means we didn't wash it. It does NOT mean we didn't look at it. Every tank gets the same intake inspection regardless of grade.

  • Rainwater & gray-water catching
  • Glycol, soap, neutral chem holds

The intake inspection

Every used tote goes through this — even the as-is ones.

'As-is' doesn't mean 'unchecked.' It just means 'not washed.' Here's what we look at before a tank is offered for sale.

Cage straightness. We measure deviation across the four corners of the cage frame. More than ¾-inch of warp pulls the tank from outbound stock to fab corner — it's still useful but it won't stack reliably.

Bottle integrity. Visual inspection inside and outside the bottle, focused on the dome, the corners, and the valve seat. Hairline cracks disqualify the tank from outbound regardless of cosmetic appearance.

Valve operation. We open and close every valve at intake. A sticky valve or a leaking gasket isn't a deal-breaker but it gets noted on the tag and reflected in the price.

Pallet condition. Replaceable pallets are a quick fab-corner swap. We keep both standard wood and HDPE pallets in stock.

Prior-fill documentation. If the seller sent paperwork, we attach it to the tank's intake record. If not, we ask the seller for what they remember. Tanks with unknown prior fills can still sell but only for non-food, non-sensitive applications.

Cage label. The original manufacturer label on the cage tells us the build year, the resin type, and the UN certification (if any). We log this even on as-is tanks — UN-rated tanks are worth more.

Key takeaways

If you only read one section.

  1. 01Used = inspected + graded + sold. Not washed. That's reconditioned.
  2. 02Per-unit pricing is $89 – $155 depending on size and grade. The bulk-order step-down kicks in at 20 tanks.
  3. 03Grade B/C/D covers everything except food contact. Most industrial applications fit here.
  4. 04Lead time is same week for orders under 12 tanks. Truckload (~80 tanks) typically dispatches inside ten days.
  5. 05We don't oversell. If the right answer is reconditioned or new, we'll say so.
Common questions

Used IBC questions.

How do I know the tank wasn't holding something nasty?
We document the prior fill at intake and won't sell a tank with unknown or hazardous prior fills into a sensitive application. The tag tells you the prior fill. If you have any doubt, ask — we're not motivated to mislead you.
Does an as-is tote need washing before I use it?
Depends on the application. For non-food, non-sensitive industrial water, ag, or storage uses, a single rinse is usually fine. For anything cleaner, step up to a Grade B reconditioned tank. We'll save you the wash labor either way.
Can I see the tank before I commit?
Yes — walk-ins during yard hours (Mon–Fri 7:30–5, Sat 8–12). For remote buyers we send a photo of the specific tank we're proposing before the truck loads.
What's the warranty?
If the tank fails incoming inspection on your end, we replace or refund without litigation. We've made this promise since 2009. We've kept it.
Do you carry UN-marked tanks?
Yes — UN 31HA1/Y is the common food-and-non-hazmat marking and we carry it in both 275 and 330. UN 31H1/Y for higher-hazard is special-order; lead time about 2 weeks.
